Magic: The Gathering® - Assassin’s Creed® on MTGO

Fans of Assassin’s Creed®, rejoice – your game is the next one in Magic’s Universes Beyond spotlight! Step into legend when Magic: The Gathering® – Assassin’s Creed® (set code ACR) debuts on Magic Online next Tuesday, July 2 at 12 p.m. PT (19:00 UTC).

MTGO is your exclusive digital destination for this straight-to-Modern crossover set, so we’ve pulled out all the stops to provide a great experience for both playing and collecting it!

The downtime to add ACR to the game will take place the same day starting at 9 a.m. PT (16:00 UTC). During that three-hour window, our Help site and Forums will also be down. But when the maintenance period ends, everything mentioned below will be available right away!

How to Collect and Play Assassin’s Creed® 

Beyond Boosters 

The Assassin’s Creed® set checks in at just 100 cards (54 uncommons, 32 rares, 14 mythics), so ACR booster packs are different than anything in Magic’s history – it’s the debut of the Beyond Booster!

Each 7-card ACR Beyond Booster contains 1-3 rare/mythics and will sell for $3.49 USD in the MTGO Store starting after Tuesday’s downtime. For this set, the composition is: 

• 3 regular uncommons 
• 1 regular rare or mythic 
• 1 foil wildcard of any rarity—a foil in every pack! 
• 1 regular basic land
  • Some packs will feature a Rome scene card – a rare land or even Ezio  
• 1 Booster Fun card of any rarity – can be regular or foil
  • Includes the Memory Corridor frame (both the regular and premium versions) and Borderless styles

Introducing Premium Boosters

Assassin’s Creed® also features the introduction of MTGO’s Premium Boosters – a new way to collect the Booster Fun elements of each set! Premium Boosters will have varying card counts, treatments, and prices from set to set.

The 7-card ACR Premium Booster will sell for $5.00 USD in the Store starting Tuesday. The star of this all-foil product is the Etched foil series first given a supercharge in Modern Horizons 3. 95 of the set’s 100 cards are available this way.

Here’s the layout of this exciting new product which features 2-4 Etched foil rare/mythics per pack:

• 3 Etched foil uncommons
  • The set’s 5 non-Etched Sagas can appear in these slots
• 1 foil basic land
  • Some packs will feature a Rome scene card – a rare land or even Ezio
• 1 Etched foil rare
• 1 Etched foil mythic
• 1 Etched wildcard of any rarity (including non-etched Sagas)

Starter Kit

For video game fans looking to leap into MTGO with a themed pre-constructed experience, look no further than the Assassin’s Creed® Starter Kit! The Kit features two separate 60-card decks legal in the Modern format – Ancient Arsenal and Brotherhood Agents – and will set for $12.99 in the MTGO Store starting Tuesday.

Magic fans looking for a complete digital ACR collection will find 25 cards – including 8 rares – new to the game.

Open the Kit and the decks, click the decklist in Collection, and jump into a casual game quickly.

Bundles 

Magic Online will also offer four separate Art Bundles to celebrate the release of Assassin’s Creed®. Add these to your digital Collection starting next Tuesday:

Foil Land Bundle

Add 10 foil copies of each of the 10 ACR basic lands – 100 cards in all – for just $9.99 USD. These lands feature silhouettes of assassins throughout the game’s history.

Gameplay Art Bundles

The other three offerings in the MTGO Store are sets of complementary characters and storied artifacts:

• Historical Figures Bundle - $20 USD for one foil copy each of 4 cards showcasing famous figures in a Borderless treatment.

• Relics Bundle - $20 USD for one foil copy each of 5 cards depicting legendary artifacts in an Extended-Art treatment.

• The Animus Project Bundle - $20 USD for one foil copy each of 4 cards featuring this storyline in the Etched treatment.

These Bundles will all appear in the Featured section of the Store until the release of Bloomburrow – be sure to get yours!

New Premium Effects—Memory Corridor 

In addition to expanding the Etched treatment to the majority of the set, Assassin’s Creed® led the MTGO team to try another bold experiment in the realm of Premium treatments.

The Memory Corridor frame aims to convey the iconic scenes from the Assassin’s Creed® franchise where each character is loading into their respective era. This frame design is a huge flavor win for tabletop Magic. So, we designed a digital-only treatment that loads the main character into the art for each foil card in this frame!

Let the mouse linger for a moment, and all of a sudden your favorite character pixelates out of view – only to return a couple seconds later. Roll your mouse up and down and see that character wipe in and out of the frame. It’s our most interactive treatment yet!

Like all of our Premium effects, this will appear both in Collection and inside the Duel Scene when your Foil Animation settings are enabled. (You can preview the look of these cards by setting your Collection quantity filter to 0 and scrolling to the end of the set.)

We hope the unique pixelated effects and cool mouse interaction we added to these cards conveys the same type of love letter to the Memory Corridor that the frame itself provides.

Event Updates 

ACR is relatively small and wasn’t strictly designed for Limited play. However, we are very much in the event business, so we decided to throw something wacky together!

Our 7-pack Beyond Sealed League kicks off right after downtime on Tuesday. That’s right, 7 Beyond Boosters to build a 40-card deck. Full of power, full of colors, full of freerunning, full of fun! This event will run for only one week, so be sure to try it out before it disappears into the shadows …

Start & End Times: July 2 following downtime until July 10 at 10 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC)

• 2 Wins: 60 Play Points

Treasure Chest Update

Assassin’s Creed® cards will be featured in our Treasure Chests starting right after downtime next Tuesday. This is the best place to get your hands on the premium Memory Corridor treatment!

We’ll also feature the Extended-Art and Borderless variants of rares and mythics, plus the usual Buy-a-Box & Bundle promos.

Treasure Chests will update when ACR goes on sale next Tuesday—be sure to watch our Twitter/X (@MagicOnline) and our Discord channel to confirm this before opening Chests.

Magic Online Player Rewards Update

The August 1 version of Player Rewards spotlights ACR – specifically, the foil uncommon Memory Corridor cards in the special treatment! Also, we’ll have foil versions of the new-to-Magic cards in the Starter Kit.

Odds and Ends

• Assassin’s Creed® is not redeemable.
• Assassin’s Creed® cards are not legal in Standard or Pioneer formats – only Modern and older.
• There are no new avatars included with ACR.
• The current Modern Horizons 3 Leagues will continue until Bloomburrow releases late next month.
• There are no changes to New Player products (New Account Starter Kit, Account Upgrade Kit, etc) with this release.
