Modern Horizons 3 Live Next Tuesday – Set Article Live Today!

The biggest shakeup of the Modern metagame in three years is just one week away! Check out our Modern Horizons 3 set article right now for all the details on the next set:

• How to collect the different Booster Fun treatments across products, including some epic new digital-only effects on cards – Etched Foil (applied to all previous versions) and Ripple Foil
• A new suite of higher-power Commander decks, plus the debut of 5 older decks with cards completed from the Commander Backlog
• A tweak to New Player items – Tokens replacing New Player Points
• The usual updates regarding Avatars, MOPR, League timing, Treasure Chests, etc

In addition, we have a separate article detailing the entry options and prize structures for MH3 Limited events.

Downtime Tomorrow, 9 a.m. to 12 noon PT

Magic Online will be down for scheduled maintenance tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 12 noon PT (16:00-19:00 UTC) to upload all the changes mentioned above to the system. During that time, our Forums and Help sites will also be down. Keep an eye on our social channels linked at the top of the Blog for real-time updates.

Vintage Cube Polish Pass Continues – 64-Player Events After Downtime

We’re reaching the home stretch of another season of Vintage Cube. It’s time to tinker with the re-centered version, tapping into our deep bench of fun cards to replace underperformers. Check out the 14-card changelist and the revised full list in this article, then join us for Cube events!

The League and Queue are already underway. 64-Player Drafts will begin after tomorrow’s downtime and run every two hours (10:30, 12:30, etc Pacific time) until MH3 debuts next Tuesday. All 3 event types use normal entry options and prize structures.

Collection Upgrade Kit Available After Downtime

We will be offering a new product starting after tomorrow’s downtime that provides all cards in the Account Upgrade Kit plus the five Starter Decks that can be purchased by pre-existing accounts for $4.99 USD.

Thank You Beta Testers!

Over the weekend, we hosted our first closed Beta test. We’d like to thank our maiden group of Beta testers for helping us get the program kicked off and getting MH3 ship-shape before release!

We heard from the community that there were some communication issues and a lack of guidance. Additionally, we discovered that many accounts that should have been transferred were not, which left many frustrated and upset due to not being able to log in. We acknowledge that this was a mistake on our part, and we will ensure this does not happen again. 

For those who feel they missed out, some good news: once you have been accepted into the Beta program, you are in! No re-application is needed, and you will be able to participate in future Beta tests. We apologize to those who were not able to participate. 

If you need further assistance or help to access your information for the next test, please do not hesitate to reach out and talk to us directly via Discord or through help.mtgo.com .

This Weekend: Creator Early Access Streams

As tabletop players around the world begin cracking packs of Modern Horizons 3, many of your favorite Magic creators will be taking their first turns with the new set on Magic Online – streamed for your entertainment!

Grab links from our Discord server’s Creator Content channel this Friday, June 7, starting at 9 a.m. PT (16:00 UTC). Then let the melodious tones of MTGO’s finest fill your day with that sweet, sweet content.

Coming Soon: Creator Showdowns!

The crown jewel of our Creator Program offerings is our monthly Creator Showdown broadcasts. Each month, 64 of Magic Online’s top streamers will compete in a six-round, double-elimination tournament. All 64 will be streaming at once to start the day, so find your favorites and support their channels!

When the 16 undefeated players are decided, you can follow the action on MTGO’s Twitch broadcast – where we’ll whip around from match to match with a rotating cast of commentators calling the action (and giveaways galore). In the end, a $5,000 USD prize pool will be divvied among those who emerge with one loss or less – with a reward of $1,250 for completing a 6-0 finish!

PREMIER PLAY

Two Super Qualifiers This Weekend 

Eight more Regional Championship slots are on the line this weekend across a pair of Super Qualifiers!

First is the Pauper Super Qualifier this Saturday, June 8 at 7 a.m. PT (14:00 UTC). It’s the final exam for the current metagame before absorbing the impact of MH3 commons next week.

Then the weekend wraps with a Limited Super Qualifier featuring the swan song of Outlaws of Thunder Junction Sealed Deck and Top 8 Draft. That tournament begins Sunday, June 9 at 7 a.m. PT (14:00 UTC).

It takes 40 Event Tickets, 400 Play Points, or 40 Season 2 Qualifier Points to enter a Super Qualifier. The Top 4 finishers in each event earn a seat in the September-December RC round, and prizes pay out to the Top 128!

Alternate Play Schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and Bloomburrow. All these offerings are Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT unless otherwise noted.

• Now-June 11 – The Polish Pass of Vintage Cube will add some tweaks to improve the experience.
• June 11-26—Modern Horizons 3 is center stage for these two weeks. As has become our custom, a Best-of-One League will be available during that period. (Keeper)
• June 26-July 17—Vintage Cube returns for a three-week run featuring its Summer Refresh. (Phantom)
• July 17-30—We’re lining up something good, but we aren’t ready to talk about it yet ...

PATCH NOTES – June 5, 2024

Card Fixes

• Stangg, Echo Warrior will correctly attach Aura/Equipment token only to its Twin.
• Furious Rise will only let its controller cast the most recently exiled card.
• Abrade and certain other modal spells will correctly be castable once the proper number of modes are selected.
• Narset, Enlightened Master will correctly allow only non-creature, non-land cards to be played for free.

Opposition Agent will correctly control an opponent’s search while Finale of Devastation resolves.

Quality of Life Improvements

• If an opponent drops from a League mid-match, you will still be able to progress in your course.
• The number of counters attached to players (experience, energy, poison, etc) will no longer up those counters’ icons in the Multiplayer Duel Scene.
• Accounts granted All-Access as part of a mass action will no longer have issues joining matches.
• Multicolored split cards will correctly conform to Commander color identity rules.

The next scheduled maintenance will take place on Wednesday, June 5 between 9 a.m. and 12 noon Pacific time (16:00-19:00 UTC). This is to support the release of Modern Horizons 3.
