Frank Lepore’s Horror Cube Live Tomorrow

Our resident curator of all things Spooky Season, Frank Lepore, has returned at the perfect moment. See how he has expanded the Horror Cube beyond Innistrad – to Duskmourn, Ixalan, and other corners of the multiverse – in an article going live tomorrow morning, October 9^th.

They try your hand at mastering the Horror Cube for over two weeks until Friday, October 25^th! Normal Cube entry options and prizes will be used, and we’ll feature both a Swiss league and single-elimination queue.

Ecobaronen’s How To Duel Commander Article Live Thursday

Vintage Cube LIVE Prize Cube Revealed

The 540 cards have been selected and the list is ready – click here to learn all about the Vintage Cube LIVE Prize Cube from our curators Ryan Spain and Chris Wolf.

Remember, this Cube will be available to draft on Magic Online on Friday, October 25 immediately after the Live draft concludes around 8:30 p.m. PT (03:30 UTC Saturday)!

In addition, Ryan will detail the process of assembling the physical Prize Cube in another article this Friday.

Watch the Ultimate Guard Finals Friday, October 25^th

The Vegas 8 will gather live at Magic Con Las Vegas to Rochester draft a real-life version of the Magic Online Vintage Cube on October 25-26. Everyone keeps what they draft, then the players compete for the lion’s share of the remaining undrafted cards – this is going to be epic – someone will walk away with a Black Lotus!

Catch streaming coverage of the event on Friday, October 25^th starting immediately following Day One of the Magic World Championship – roughly 6 p.m. PT (01:00 Saturday UTC) – on twitch.tv/UltimateGuardLive and co-streamed on twitch.tv/magiconline.

MTGO BROADCASTS 

Creator Showdown This Saturday! – Duel Commander

Dozens of your favorite Magic content creators will be in action competing for up to $5,000 in cash and prizes in the next MTGO Creator Showdown this Saturday, October 12!

The battle this month features MTGO’s newest competitive challenge: Duel Commander! This will be among the highest-stakes tournaments to date in this 1-vs-1, 20-life format. All participants will be streaming simultaneously in this six-round, double-elimination event starting at 9 a.m. PT (16:00 UTC).

Once the field is whittled down to 16 undefeated players, the official MTGO Twitch channel will fire up a broadcast hosted by Will Hall and featuring a rotating cast of commentators. We’ll whip around from stream to stream catching every turn of the cards until one player emerges with a 6-0 record and scores the top prize of $1,250!

There will be giveaways galore on the MTGO channel’s broadcast, so be sure to tune in and follow the action!

PREMIER PLAY

Six RC Seats At Stake This Weekend 

Your next chance to be invited to 2025’s first Regional Championship round comes up this weekend!

First up is the Pauper Qualifier that begins Saturday, October 12 at 7:00 a.m. PT (14:00 UTC). You can enter this event only with 40 Season 3 Qualifier Points. The Top 2 finishers grab a seat in the January-March RC round.

Then the weekend concludes with a Limited Super Qualifier on Sunday, October 13, also at 7 a.m. PT (14:00 UTC). Just like this past weekend, Duskmourn: House of Horror will be the featured set.

It takes 40 Event Tickets, 400 Play Points, or 40 QPs to enter a Super Qualifier. The Top 4 finishers here get to go to the RC, and prizes pay out to the Top 128!

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and Magic: The Gathering Foundations. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC until Nov. 3, 18:00 UTC after) unless otherwise noted.

• October 9-25 – Just in time for our newest horror set, Frank Lepore returns with his Horror Cube, incorporating Duskmourn and other creepy crawlies from across Magic’s history into the previously Innistrad-themed set. (Phantom)
  • We’ll have Frank’s article and full Cube list tomorrow.
• October 25-November 12 – The Vintage Cube LIVE Prize Cube makes its appearance digitally – see if you can do any better than the eight from Vegas. This Cube will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. PT once the Live event draft has concluded. (Phantom)

TOMORROW’S PATCH NOTES – October 9, 2024

Duel Scene

• Magma Opus will no longer cause a game to reset if no damage is distributed accidentally.
• If a card that puts itself on the bottom of the library is cast with Flashback, the game will correctly not put a second copy of the card in exile.
• Crawling Sensation will correctly trigger only once per turn.
