Tarkir: Dragonstorm on MTGO

Posted on Apr 01, 2025

By The Magic Online Team

It’s time for dragons and clans to vie for supremacy once again! Tarkir: Dragonstorm (set code TDM) debuts on Magic Online next Tuesday, April 8 at 10 a.m. Pacific time (17:00 UTC)

The downtime to add this set to MTGO will happen tomorrow, April 2, from 8 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. Pacific time (21:00-22:00 UTC). Be sure to follow our social media outlets (Discord, BlueSky and more) to keep real-time tabs on this release.

Features of the upcoming couple months include some extra-cool premium effects coming to Player Rewards, an extra week to use Draft Bundle tokens, another round of Vintage Cube, and more …

How to Collect and Play Tarkir: Dragonstorm

Play Boosters

Each TDM Play Booster will sell for $3.99 USD in the MTGO Store starting on Tuesday at 10 a.m. PT and contains 1-3 rare/mythics.

For this set, the composition is:

Premium Boosters

The MTGO-exclusive Premium Booster is back! As usual, we have changed up quantities and pricing for this set.

The 10-card Tarkir: Dragonstorm Premium Booster will sell for $6.99 USD in the Store starting next Tuesday. Here’s the layout – each Premium booster contains 5 rares/mythics and at least 7 foils:

TDM Draft Bundle

The Draft Bundle returns with Tarkir: Dragonstorm with a slight tweak.

Thie idea is “Buy 3, Pay Less” – plus get an avatar! The Draft Bundle will sell for $32.00 USD in the MTGO Store starting next Tuesday. That represents a $4 savings off buying Event Tickets to cover those events.

The Draft Bundle contains three Draft Entry Tokens which can be used to enter the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Draft League during its first three weeks (raised higher from Aetherdrift’s), plus this set’s avatar exclusive to this product: Whirling Stormbrood!

Neither the Bundle nor its contents are tradeable.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander – Five Decks!

This set has five new Commander decks for you to enjoy (set code TDC) – one representing each clan. Each deck features ten brand-new cards plus a suite of reprints. The decks will sell for $29.99 USD each in the MTGO Store starting next Tuesday. They are:

NOTE: The Cute Dragons represent tabletop’s 6 Reversible Dragon cards (including Ugin) that have been split into two separate cards on MTGO, each featuring a different art image. Slots in Play Boosters and Premium Boosters have the 12 images appearing half as often as the card does in tabletop so that the overall ratio is maintained.

Quality of Life Updates

Some long-awaited and popularly requested changes will be added to MTGO starting after tomorrow’s downtime.

First, multiplayer fans rejoice! We’ve solved the issue that was causing the Game Log to incorrectly replace card name with player names for targeting, abilities, and more.

Additionally, a game server improvement will go live that:

1) Allows the game to process more loops before turning off auto-yields or declaring a game a draw, and

2) Allows more triggers to be placed on the stack at once, particularly in multiplayer games (#nekusarpluswheeleffects)

Lastly, Premier and Challenge players will be excited about this one – All Scheduled Events with a Top 8 will use Swiss standings to determine who gets the play-draw option in Game 1 of a playoff round! The game will display this by having the higher-ranked player winning the die roll.

Commander Corner

Commander Backlog

There are four cards that are coming off the Backlog this time. Extended-Art versions of these cards will appear in Treasure Chests starting next Tuesday:

Additions from Commander Backlog

Astarion, the Decadent (CLB)

Audacious Swap (NCC)

Gluntch, the Bestower (CLB)

Perrie, the Pulverizer (NCC)

Magic Online Players Rewards (MOPR) Update

Here’s what is coming up in MOPR. Don’t forget to check your account for MOPR packs granted today based on March play and spending.

The grant on May 1 covers April activity. It will feature all five of the Dragon’s Eye lands with our special premium treatment – some of the blingiest cards to ever come from a MOPR pack. Don’t miss out on these!

Then on June 2, we’ll reward May play and spending with the Promo Pack uncommons and the Showcase Dragon Scale commons and uncommons, all in foil.

Treasure Chest Update

Treasure Chests will update when TDM goes on sale next Tuesday – be sure to watch our Twitter/X (@MagicOnline) and our Discord channel to confirm this before opening Chests.

For full details on the changes to come, check out the information page when it updates later this week. Many of your Booster Fun favorites will be available via the Treasure Chest –see the chart above.

After next Tuesday, the next Treasure Chest update will occur on Wednesday, May 7.

Avatars

We have another new set of Avatars to show you!

New accounts created between next Tuesday and June 11 will receive the Eshki Dragonclaw avatar.

Then it’s time to bestow some Prestige! As usual, you get five points for each Competitive trophy you earn in Leagues and one for each Friendly trophy. At the end of the season (when Magic: The Gathering–FINAL FANTASY releases), you'll earn every avatar for which you qualify.

Earning at least five points gets you the uncommon Surrak, Elusive Hunter avatar.

Earning at least 20 points nabs you the rare Sarkhan, Dragon Ascendant avatar.

Earning 40 points or more rewards you with the mythic rare Elspeth, Storm Slayer avatar.

Odds and Ends

Whether spring has sprung in your part of the world, or summer is giving way to fall, every season is great to be playing Magic Online. Thanks for being part of our community, and we’ll see you on the battlefield!
