It’s time to get whisked away to a more natural plane where the tails are tiny but the adventure is grand. Team up with Rabbits, Mice, Squirrels, Bats and more as try to repel the Calamity Beasts from Three Tree City when Bloomburrow (set code BLB) debuts on Magic Online next Tuesday, July 30 at 10 a.m. Pacific time (17:00 UTC)!

The downtime to add this set to MTGO will happen tomorrow, July 24, from 9 a.m. to approximately 12 noon Pacific time (16:00-19:00 UTC). Be sure to follow our social media outlets (Discord, Twitter/X, and more) to keep real-time tabs on this release. As a reminder, our Help site and Forums will also be down during this period.

The Gifts Keep On Giving

Features of the upcoming couple months include a new and improved Premium Booster, the introduction of Duel Commander to Leagues and casual play, a new-look Gilded effect for Bloomburrow’s Anime treatments, plus the return of Standard rotation.

Vintage Cube Live Heats Up!

Don’t forget that the summer’s hottest tournament series, Vintage Cube Live, kicks into top gear this week. Players who survived the first Feeder League are ready to do battle in Week 1’s 64-Player Drafts. The eight players who run through those tournaments unscathed will gather one final time on Saturday, August 3 with a simple mission – 3 wins gets them to Vegas!

For everyone else, your next chance to take a step towards MagicCon and the ultimate Vintage Cube draft will be on Friday, August 9^th.

How to Collect and Play Bloomburrow

Play Boosters

Each BLB Play Booster will sell for $3.99 USD in the MTGO Store starting on Tuesday at 10 a.m. PT and contains 1-3 rare/mythics.

For this set, the composition is:

• 7 regular commons
  • At least 4 of the 5 colors will appear within this group
  • 1 in 64 Play Boosters will have a common replaced by a Special Guest card
• 3 regular uncommons
• 1 regular rare or mythic
• 1 regular wildcard – that is, a non-foil of any rarity
• 1 foil wildcard – a foil in every pack!
• 1 Showcase basic land – either regular or foil
  • There are 4 styles: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter

Premium Boosters

Our newest way of getting premium and Booster Fun cards into your Collection is back – the MTGO-exclusive Premium Booster! As promised, we have changed up quantities and pricing for this set.

The 10-card Bloomburrow Premium Booster will sell for $6.99 USD in the Store starting next Tuesday. This time, we are stuffing as many different Booster Fun treatments into a single pack as possible!

Here’s the layout – each Premium booster contains 6 rares/mythics and at least 7 foils:

• 3 foil uncommons
• 1 foil basic land
  • Just like Play Boosters, this includes the four seasonal themes but all in foil
• 1 premium rare/mythic in the normal frame
• 1 regular extended-art or borderless rare/mythic from Bloomburrow Commander
• 1 Woodland Frame Showcase rare/mythic - either regular or foil
• 1 regular Showcase card from among Imagine Courageous Critters planeswalkers/creatures, Field Notes rare/mythic, Borderless mythic, Three Tree City variants, and the special Mitsuhiro Arita art.
• 1 foil Showcase card from among those groups
• 1 foil with the MTGO-exclusive Gilded effect – the Anime treatments (Imagine Courageous Critters, Field Notes, Commanders, and Mitsuhiro Arita)

Bloomburrow Commander

This set has four new Commander decks for you to enjoy (set code BLC) – each deck features ten brand-new cards plus a suite of reprints. The decks will sell for $29.99 USD each in the MTGO Store starting next Tuesday. They are:

• Animated Army (red-green)
• Family Matters (blue-red-white)
• Peace Offering (green-white-blue)
• Squirreled Away (black-green)

In response to previous feedback, we are holding Extended-Art Main Set and Woodland Frame Showcase cards out of Treasure Chests for the first Treasure Chest cycle.

Commander Corner

Duel Commander League Begins Tomorrow!

In case you missed it, MTGO is taking another step toward serving the competitive Commander community. Duel Commander (or French Commander) makes its debut as a supported format following tomorrow’s downtime! You can check out all the details – the custom ruleset, recent updates to the format’s Banned and Restricted list (including the most recent one yesterday), and more – in this article.

Note: There is a Known Issue involving illegally adding multiple Companions to a deck – we will attempt to have this fixed in our patch next Tuesday. If this is seen in a League match, it should be considered an Exploit and reported at help.mtgo.com.

Commander Backlog

We have made significant further progress against the Commander backlog during this development cycle. As with previous releases, the cards added this time were basically free to us while coding cards for this set. The Extended-Art versions of these will appear in the TC-Only slot starting next Tuesday (*indicates reprint that appears in BLC in regular frame)

LCC Pirate Commander Deck Next Tuesday

Ahoy Mateys!

Yep, that’s the deck we have unlocked this development cycle... the Lost Cavers of Ixalan Commander pre-con starring Admirable Brass, Unsinkable will be available for purchase in the MTGO Store next Tuesday when Bloomburrow launches.

As cool as the card Lethal Scheme is for all you connive fans out there, due to development concerns, we have swapped it out for Pile On. Because of this, the price has been lowered a couple bucks to $27.99 USD.

Magic Online Players Rewards (MOPR) Update

With all of the sets being released this season, Bloomburrow only has the month of September to contribute to MOPR (reminder that ACR will feature in this Thursday’s MOPR grant).

The grant on September 1 covering August play and spending features all of the seasonal basic lands from Bloomburrow in foil, as well as the five uncommons from the Promo Pack.

Treasure Chest Update

Treasure Chests will update when BLB goes on sale next Tuesday – be sure to watch our Twitter/X (@MagicOnline) and our Discord channel to confirm this before opening Chests.

For full details on the changes to come, check out the information page. Many of your Booster Fun favorites will be available via the Treasure Chest –see the chart above.

After next Tuesday, the next Treasure Chest update will occur on Wednesday, August 28.

Event Updates (non-Commander edition)

Standard Rotation

After a one-year hiatus, it’s now time to rotate the Standard format. Following tomorrow’s downtime, the following sets will no longer be legal in Standard:

• Innistrad: Midnight Hunt
• Innistrad: Crimson Vow
• Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty
• Streets of New Capenna

The new version of the Standard League will start following downtime. Reprints entering Standard with BLB and commons in the New Account Starter Kit will be legal right away.

NOTE: Bloomburrow will not be legal in formats other than Standard until events go live next Tuesday.

Event Pricing & Product Returns to Normal

After a summer of unusual pack sizes and prices, Bloomburrow events will return to the normal amounts for entries and prizes listed on our Limited Events page once this set launches. Premier Events will follow suit after launch – including Limited Preliminaries, Challenges, and Super Qualifiers.

If you’ve just joined us over the last few months – first off, welcome! Here are the normal prices for Limited events:

• Draft League – 12 Event Tickets | 3 BLB Play Boosters & 2 Event Tickets | 120 Play Points
• Sealed League – 24 Event Tickets | 6 BLB Play Boosters & 4 Event Tickets | 240 Play Points
• Limited Preliminary – 30 Event Tickets | 300 Play Points
• Limited Challenges – 35 Event Tickets | 350 Play Points

Information on Constructed Events is also available – Leagues are 10 Event Tickets/100 Play Points, Preliminaries are 20/200, and Challenges are 30/300.

Alternate Play Schedule

Here’s a look at the schedule of events coming up between now and Duskmourn: House of Horror. Each description mentions if the Draft is Phantom – cards won’t be added to players’ collections in Phantom events. All transitions take place at 10:00 a.m. PT (17:00 UTC) unless otherwise noted.

Note that Vintage Cube Live events will be going during this entire stretch – check out this page for full details.

• July 30-August 14 – Bloomburrow is center stage for these two weeks. Note that we are not doing a Best-of-One League this time as they have been dwindling in popularity.
• August 14-21 – It’s once again time for the Battle of the Planes – the same five locations as last year will do battle, but there are a couple twists in store. (Phantom)
• August 21-September 18 – Vintage Cube returns to support the next MOCS Showcase on September 14 – this is the same set of cards that will be used in Vintage Cube Live starting August 9. (Phantom)
• September 18-24 – As promised when we had to end its run early in May, we are running back Modern Horizons 2 Flashback (Phantom only)

Scheduled Event Prize Updates

With the changeover of rotating MOCS formats from Pauper to Standard, we will be keeping an eye on participation in Challenges and Preliminaries to determine whether some number of events should drop from the 64-player level to the 32-player level or vice versa. Watch our weekly Blog for announcements.

Also, we previously announced that starting with this set, players who win foil sets in events would get a bonus due to those foils being just redeemable for regular physical product. After review, we have changed that bonus to 18 Play Boosters. This takes effect starting after BLB release next week.

Avatars

We will grant Prestige avatars from Modern Horizons 3 shortly after the end of that season on July 30.

Now let’s look ahead to the avatars of the newest plane in Magic! But first ...

It’s been a hectic summer getting all manner of cool stuff added to the game and putting together big events! Something that fell through the cracks were the avatars for this set. They are now not available to distribute until the downtime for Duskmourn: House of Horror. We do apologize for this – when the time comes in September, we will grant the BLB avatar to accounts created after tomorrow’s downtime. That avatar will be War Squeak.

We will take the same action for the Treasure Chest avatar, granting the TC avatar for BLB to all accounts that open an MH3 one between tomorrow’s downtime and DSK - that avatar will be Long River Lurker.

Finally, we will dole out some Prestige! As usual, you get five points for each Competitive trophy you earn in Leagues and one for each Friendly trophy. At the end of the season (when Duskmourn: House of Horror releases), you'll earn every avatar for which you qualify- the images aren’t ready yet, but we’ll post them here when they are.

Earning at least five points gets you the uncommon The Infamous Cruelcraw avatar.

Earning at least 20 points nabs you the rare Karn, the Great Creator avatar (showcasing its Imagine Courageous Critters art).

Earning 40 points or more rewards you with the mythic rare Ral, Crackling Wit avatar.

Odds and Ends

• Bloomburrow will be redeemable. Redemption Tokens are planned to go on sale in the Store on Wednesday, September 4. Stay tuned to the Weekly Announcement Blog at MTGO.com for details.
  • As a reminder, starting with this set, physical foil redemption sets are no longer available. You can redeem a full digital set of either regular or premium Bloomburrow cards to get a regular physical set. Full details can be found here, including a price increase and a discount available on international shipping.

• Constructed and Limited events will rotate to BLB versions of the same event on release day, so make sure you complete any Leagues before the set launches.
  • EXCEPTION: Standard – see the item Standard Rotation above
• Reprints in Bloomburrow that are entering a format other than Standard won’t become legal until the new Leagues kick off next Tuesday.
• The refreshed New Account Kit will include BLB commons once we are up from downtime, but new cards won’t be legal for use until BLB goes on sale (except for Standard).
  • The Account Upgrade Kit, Collection Upgrade Kit, and Commander Workshop will not be updated with this set.
